Teenie Key

Teenie offers a very sweet, high-energy practice that includes awesome asana to tone and tighten the whole body, with a specific emphasis on the core. Join Teenie to build heat then look inward as you find stability, not only in the physical body, but in the emotional and energetic bodies, as well! Teenie closes each practice with a brief but powerful meditation on gratitude in order to infuse her students’ lives with balance and bliss.

Teenie obtained her 200 RYT under Katie Silcox, who is the New York Times best-selling author of Happy, Healthy, Sexy and senior teacher within the Sri-Vidya Para-Yoga lineage under internationally acclaimed Yogarupa Rod Stryker. Teenie wholly embraces the unlimited benefits of fusing the ancient medicinal practice of Ayurveda with her yoga practices, on and off the mat. Her goal as an ever-growing student and as a loving teacher is to become stronger every day. Teenie knows that a regular yoga practice is paramount to making healthy personal choices, from the way we exercise to the way we eat, and even think! Her classes encourage students to become mindful of their nutritional choices and emotional states, leading to an overall increase in well-being. She believes that focusing on making healthy decisions in life enables us to be our happiest and allows us to grow to our fullest potential in Mind, Spirit and Body. Outside of her yoga practice, Teenie enjoys the art of hairstyling as owner of Details Hair Salon in Marion, VA. She also relishes any time spent outdoors in the beauty of nature - hiking, swimming, breathing in warm ocean air, and roaming our own beautiful VA Creeper Trail.

Julie Rutherford

With a background in personal training, soccer, group fitness, spinning, coaching and marathon running, Julie began her journey with yoga in 2008 in Lansing MI while working as a group exercise instructor and Personal Trainer. She tried her first class on the campus of Michigan State University while attending a continuing education class for her personal trainer certificate. From there, Julie gradually worked toward earning her 200 hour Registered Yoga Trainer Certification while continuing to gain experience teaching yoga, group exercise and personal training in Lansing.

Julie is a current member of the National Yoga Alliance and holds her 200-hour RYT certification with YogaFit Training Systems. Yogafit is the largest yoga fitness training system in the world. YogaFit is a user friendly, demystified style of yoga designed for every body. It is an eclectic blend of traditional hatha yoga poses drawn from Iyengar, Ashtanga, Vinyasa and Viniyoga. The mission of YogaFit is to bring healing yoga to the masses. Confident in this exercise science-supported style, Julie works to incorporate this philosophy into the classes she teaches. Throughout her trainings, she has had the opportunity to study under a variety of highly qualified trainers from various backgrounds such as physical therapists, chiropractors, brain surgeons and yoga therapists. She has taken specialty training hours through YogaFit in anatomy and alignment, props, hands on adjustments, yoga for kids, seniors, and yoga for back pain.

Since 2008 Julie has experience teaching yoga in health clubs, at the YMCA and local recreation centers. Julie practices Karma yoga and has donated her time to teaching for many special groups such as grade school classrooms, middle school fitness fairs, the Girl Scouts, mothers groups, the local farmers market, church groups, the American Heart Association and running and cycling teams. Julie worked as lead yoga instructor and personal trainer for Turning Point, a Susan G. Koman grant program for breast cancer survivors at the YMCA in Lansing MI. Most recently, Julie has trained and taught yoga at Iron Mountain CrossFit in Abingdon. Julie believes in the benefits yoga brings and incorporates yoga with the personal training clients she works with as well.

Since she began practicing yoga, Julie has grown in her personal practice and attributes her personal time on the mat to her passion for the ancient science of yoga. A naturally active person, Julie has found yoga to be an essential and effective practice that allows her to find peace, connection and balance in her life.

Julie is dedicated to delivering a safe and meaningful experience to anyone who is interested in deepening their existing practice or trying yoga for the first time. She is very grateful for the opportunity to share her love of yoga with Abingdon Virginia.

Julie lives in Abingdon with her husband Mike and her two sons Tommy, 10 and Jack, 6. Upon moving to the area in 2010, Julie and Mike fell in love with the mountains in Southwest Virginia. They have chosen the name Whitetop Yoga in honor of the natural beauty that surrounds their home.

Christina Gomez

Christina started practicing yoga in her early twenties.

She had always struggled with flexibility and was intimidated by yoga at first but once she started attending classes, she fell in love.

While Christina originally started yoga to improve her flexibility, as time went on, yoga became so much more to her than flexibility or a good workout.

Being a perfectionist she had struggled with anxiety in the past, especially when she was in graduate school.

Yoga has taught Christina to live in the moment, not worry about the past or future and to leave behind things that no longer serve her.

We are often our own worst critic, yoga teaches us to be kind to ourselves and to love ourselves despite our imperfections.

Christina completed the RYT 200 yoga teacher training program through Bristol Yoga and InnerSea Yoga.

She is constantly excited to teach and share her passion of yoga with her students.

Christina hopes yoga will improve her students' life and well being as it has done for her.

Vinyasa yoga is a style of yoga focused on creating energy, freedom and vitality. Through the perfect balance of breath and movement, this flow style practice honors each individual and their needs.  Vinyasa yoga enlivens the body, allowing for optimal health of the mind and body.  All levels welcome.
